The time has arrived when it is necessary to obtain the services of another experienced Public Works Foreman for the Praya Reclamation Works. Owing to the adoption of large concrete blocks for the foundations (sanctioned by the Secretary of State) it is desirable that the services of a foreman Mason should be secured who has had experience in setting large blocks. A very suitable man (Mr. W. J. Nicholls) who on Sir John Coode's recommendation was sent out to Cyprus to superintend the works of a small harbour there is probably now available, as I understand that these works are approaching completion. I should be glad if we could secure his services. Should he not be available Sir John Coode will probably be able to recommend another suitable man.

The rate of salary should be about the same as that of Mr. John Davis sent out by the Crown Agents for the Praya wall, viz:- $135 per month, $12 for chair allowance, and $7 per day when employed on Sundays; but as it is very important that the services of a superior man should be secured, the Crown Agents should be authorised to make a certain...
